Week 3 - Independant study

We continued developing the poster to come up with more compositions. The poster with the gnome was our strongest poster so we continued with that as well as testing out putting a dog in its place as another community link.

The first developments were centered around getting the heirachy of the gnome and the hand right, as well as the text. In this version the text really doesn't work at the top anymore as when its slanted on the left it covers to much the gnome and how its shown now is difficult to read and not visually pleasing.

The text like this is much better as it isn't interfering with any of the image anymore. The sizing of the gnome and the hand doesn't quite seem right as the hand doesn't give off a sense of warning, like the gnome could easily just stand on it to get rid of it.

Having the hand bigger in this version works much better as the image now gives off a sense of urgency which the text then emphasises with the text saying "GET PREPARED".
With this version we tried out the idea of having multiple gnomes to bring in more of the idea of community. The gnomes do seem to start overpowering the hand again because they have a much brighter colour so they draw the eye a lot more.
This one was playing around with the idea of needing someone to have your back. The gnome was distracted by the smaller hand and then the bigger one is going to snatch it. This could be reinforced by changing the heading to say something along the lines of "make sure someone has your back" and then in body copy "at our neighbourhood event..."
This one is enhancing the danger again. The gnome is much more surrounded and in danger and it maybe takes away some of the questioning? Theres definite danger by him being fully surrounded instead of a sort of curiosity of like what is that? when theres just the one hand. It isn't nessasrily a better composition but maybe the version with just one hand needs to make it seem like a much more urgent danger. But then also going back to some of the critiques we had at the start, people liked the hand better because it was more subtle so by making them so much more in your face that could be taking away what was so good about the hand coming out of the dirt.
Another version of him being distracted by the little hands, needing someone to have his back.
Mega horror movie poster vibes.
A few different font tests just to get a feel of what we do and don't like. None of them are quite what we are looking for so we are going to keep looking.
